When a separate app is still the right decision
A spreadsheet does not become a robust product platform merely because it gets a better interface. A separate internal app still makes sense when the work depends on several systems, large datasets, customer sign-in, detailed roles, or transactions that must never finish halfway.
The same is true when business logic matters more than presentation. Pricing rules, stock reservations, regulatory logs, and complex approvals usually need a clearer technical home than a generated layer over one tab.
Those limits do not weaken the canvas idea. They make the buying decision clearer. Use it when the underlying system already works and the interface is the problem. Build separately when the foundation itself needs to change.
