OpenAI Codex release notes: alpha adds inline patch review
Part of the series: OpenAI Codex release notes

OpenAI Codex CLI now lets you expand code changes while an approval prompt is still open. The change is included in prerelease 0.167.0-alpha.4, published on November 3. Codex CLI is OpenAI's terminal-based coding agent.

OpenAI Codex release notes: read the change before answering
Previously, an open modal prompt could prevent you from expanding details in the conversation history. You can now click the controls that reveal those details while the prompt remains open.
Human step
When Codex asks you to approve a patch, click the control that expands its details in the transcript. Read the change before answering the approval prompt. This is a terminal interface action, not a prompt for the agent.
If expanding the details interrupts automatic following of new output, following resumes when the approval ends or advances to another patch. If you have manually scrolled or selected text, Codex preserves that state instead of jumping to the latest output.

Available in alpha, not the latest stable release
On November 3, the package registry's alpha channel points to 0.167.0-alpha.4, while the latest stable version remains 0.166.0. The change appears in the code comparison between these versions. It should not be described as a stable-release feature.
