Claude update: memory now works across chat and Cowork

Claude can now use the same memory in regular chats and cloud-based Cowork tasks. Context you shared in chat can carry into a Cowork task, and relevant context from Cowork can be used in later chats.

Claude memory now carries into cloud Cowork

Memory is stored as individual Topics under Settings > Memory, rather than one long summary. You can read, edit, or delete each topic. A correction then applies to future conversations.

This shared memory applies to Cowork in the cloud. Local Cowork sessions on your computer do not use it.

How to use Claude's updated memory

Human step:

1. Open Settings > Memory and review the Topics Claude has saved.
2. Correct outdated details and delete anything that should not carry into new chats or Cowork tasks.
3. Start one cloud Cowork task based on something you recently discussed in chat. Check that Claude used the right context before reusing the result.

Sensitive topics, such as health or religious beliefs, are excluded by default. You must separately enable Include sensitive topics in memory. Even then, Claude never saves certain data, including financial account numbers and government ID numbers.

Availability and defaults

• Memory is on by default for Free, Pro, and Max on the web, Claude Desktop, and the latest mobile app.
• It is off by default for Team and Enterprise. An owner must first allow memory for the organization; each user then manages their own Topics.
• Memory and sensitive topics are separate organization controls. An owner cannot view or edit an individual user's memories.
• Memory is unavailable to organizations with HIPAA, public-sector, or custom data-retention agreements.
