Claude Code release notes: 2.1.300 controls VS Code selections

Claude Code 2.1.300 lets you stop selected text in VS Code from being attached to your messages automatically. Released on October 14, it also fixes errors when resuming sessions or reusing commands in the extension.

Claude Code: choose whether selected text is attached

Claude Code normally sees the text you have selected in the editor. The new claudeCode.attachSelection setting lets you turn off that automatic attachment. This helps when you are reading a file but want to ask a question unrelated to the current selection.

Human step: Check the Claude Code extension version in VS Code's Extensions view. It needs to be 2.1.300 or later. Then turn off claudeCode.attachSelection in VS Code settings if you do not want the selection attached automatically. The extension bundles its own CLI (command-line interface), so checking a separately installed terminal program's version is not enough.

Resumed sessions and recalled commands

The same version fixes two specific VS Code errors:

  • "Resume session" and tabs restored after a reload could open an empty conversation when the session had moved into a Git worktree, a separate working copy of the repository.
  • A previous slash command recalled with the up arrow and run with Enter could lose its arguments. The command and file menus now stay closed over recalled text until you edit it.

These changes apply to Claude Code in VS Code, not ordinary conversations in the Claude app.
